Review: Mentholatum Lip Pure Lipgel & Lip Balm - put to the test!
Mentholatum has launched its latest Mentholatum Lip Pure series with 3 variants - Orange, Fragrance Free and Honey Lemon (Lip Gel)
I received 2 of the 3 types which is..
- Mentholatum Lip Pure Moisturizing Honey Lemon Lipgel
- Mentholatum Lip Pure Fragrance Free Lip Balm
← This is the Lip Pure Orange Lip Balm
Product Packaging
The packaging gives a refreshing feel as it uses fruits & plants illustration, making it easier for us to remember the ingredients used in the product.
Lip Pure Moisturizing Honey Lemon Lipgel - Honey Lemon, hence the colour tone yellow-orange is used.
Mentholatum Lip Pure Fragrance Free Lip Balm - Green to represent fragrance free
Lip Pure Introduction
Lip Pure makes up of 6 ingredients - Beeswax, Jojoba, Grape Seed, Almond, Aloe Vera and Shea butter, each with its own function to help aid dry, aging lips!
I like what it says, "formulated for most sensitive lips." ^_^ *thumbs up* My lips are pretty sensitive~
Lip Pure Honey & Lemon lipgel capacity 12g vs Lip Pure Fragrance Free Lip Balm 4g
Swatches
Lipgel vs Lip Blam. As can see from below, the lipgel has yellow/golden mica in them. After blending it out, it shimmers slightly on the back of my hand.
Lip Swatches
I did a similar lip swatch the last time with another range of mentholatum lip balm. Its been a while since I did that so I thought maybe I should do this again to see the difference of Lipgel & Lip Balm of the same range.
*Note* I did these steps to ensure the test is fair.
I used my darkest purple-magenta lipstick to do this lip test.
I didn't use any lipgel or balm on the previous night, so my lips started to become pretty dry after I had a cup of coffee in the morning.
I cleared up my lips with tissue and start applying the lipstick.
After every application, I will press my lips together and move my lips around then reapply the lipstick again to make sure every corner of my lips captures the pigments from the lipstick.
Lip Swatch Test Results
Without any lipgel and balm, my lips are OBVIOUSLY very dry. See how many lip lines you see from the first lip print? Scary isn't it? ⊙⌂⊙"
The lipstick over lipgel is SOOoo much better. All lip lines are *WHOOSH* gone!! That is also the reason why I super love using Lipgels (as stated HERE in my past review)
The lip balm however had lost to the lipgel, though it appears that the lipstick showed up stronger on paper, but they are rather uneven. Unlike the lip balm, the lipstick colour is evenly captured by the lipgel and even added some shine to it! (caused by the lipgel shimmers)
Review of Lip Pure Lipgel & Lip Balm
- The Lipgel felt really waxy, thick and sticky
- Lipgel smells more of Honey, lesser of Lemon
- Hard to blend on my lips as it's really very waxy and sticky, takes some time to slowly blend it out to every corner of my lips
- Instantly fills up my lip lines, pumping up my lips alittle and making it feel soft
- Gives shine to my lips
- Makes my lips look slightly shimmering and bright (due to the yellow/gold shimmers)
- Does not irritate my lips or the skin around it (sometimes my lips feels itchy and has bump when irritated or touches something dirty)
- Does not cause oil bumps on my lips or skin around it (which is good! Because I experience that quite alot when the lip gel is too oily)
- Lipgel moisturizes my lips for about 3-4 hours (if I don't eat/drink), will need re-application thereafter to keep my lips moisturized
- Lips stay only a little moisturised after 1 night, as the next day it feels alittle bit dry and requires immediate re-application
- Love using lipsticks over this lipgel because of its stickiness, the lipstick grabs on to the lipgel easily
- However lipstick colour is easily being removed when my lips touches something, reason because the lipstick is 'sitting' ontop of the lipgel, where the lipgel is only a protective layer of lip moisturiser
- I like using lipgel before I go out and during night time before I sleep
~
- Lip balm feels non-sticky, greasy than the lipgel
- Lip balm has no fragrance (fragrance free)
- Glides on smoothly on my lips (probably because its a tad oilier than lipgel)
- Instantly fills up my lip lines and makes my lips feel smoother & softer when I touch it
- Gives shine & slight gloss to my lips
- Does not irritate my lips or the skin around it
- Does not cause oil bumps on my lips or skin around it
- Lip balm moisturizes my lips slighlty longer than lipgel as the greasiness tends make it to stay longer
- Lips stay only a little moisturised after 1 night, as the next day it feels alittle bit dry and requires immediate re-application
- Prefer to use lipgel than lip balm if I wish to apply lipstick over it, as lip balm couldn't fully grab hold of the pigments
- Applying Lipstick over Lip Balm is an ease as the lip balm provides a smooth protective layer ontop of my lips making it easy for me to glide on any colour over it
- I use lip balm when I go out for quick lip moisturizer
